Dexter (Dex) Burns is President and Co-Founder at the Council on Represent
-ative Leadership Abroad (CORLA) in Washington, D.C., a nonprofit organization that promotes representation in leadership roles in international affairs. He is also a Provost's doctoral fellow in the Human and Organizational Learning program at the George Washington University. His research interests focus on representative leadership, managerial economics and inclusive human capital within international organizations.
An experienced researcher and HR professional, Dex has managed internship programs and has led diversity recruiting efforts within international organizations in both the federal and nonprofit sectors. Before co-founding CORLA, Dex founded and led First Trip Inc. – a nonprofit organization that awarded over 300 study abroad scholarships and passport vouchers to underrepresented college students studying abroad for the first time.
Dex continues to work closely with international organizations and business leaders who are committed to ensuring that future generations of global leaders and professionals mirror the nation’s diverse populace and intellectual perspectives. Dex is an active University of Illinois alumnus, a member of the Chicago Council on Global Affairs, and lectures at the Elliott School of International Affairs.
