Dexter (Dex) Burns is a doctoral student in the Human and Organizational Learning program at the George Washington University in Washington, D.C. He is a Provost's Doctoral Fellow, and his research interests focus on Managerial Economics for global NGOs, and minority recruiting and retention efforts within organizations engaged in international affairs.
An experienced researcher and HR professional, Dex has managed internship programs and has led diversity recruiting efforts within international organizations in both the federal and nonprofit sectors. He is the founder and President of First Trip, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that works to increase minority representation in study abroad and encourage the pursuit of global careers.
Dex continues to work closely with international organizations and business leaders who are committed to ensuring that future generations of global leaders and professionals mirror the nation’s diverse populace and intellectual perspectives. He is a member of the Chicago Council on Global Affairs and is a part-time Lecturer at the Elliott School of International Affairs.

As an avid world traveler myself, I established First Trip to provide passport vouchers, travel scholarships, and mentoring to minority students traveling abroad for the very first time.
